Yes. SGA gives school leavers aged 16–19 a clear route into football coaching. You will study for a recognised Level 3 qualification, work towards FA-accredited coaching badges and develop practical experience in real football environments.
No. You do not need previous coaching experience to join the programme. SGA will help you learn the fundamentals before giving you opportunities to plan sessions, work with players and put your knowledge into practice.
No. A successful coach needs communication skills, football knowledge, enthusiasm, organisation and the ability to help other people improve. These are the qualities you will develop at SGA.
Good football coaches communicate clearly, motivate players, plan effective sessions and adapt their approach to different ages and abilities. You will also develop leadership, teamwork and performance-analysis skills.
The programme is for school leavers aged 16–19 who want to continue their education while preparing for football coaching or another career in the football industry.
Applicants will typically be working towards five GCSEs at grades 4–9, although individual circumstances can be discussed with the admissions team. Your attitude, attendance and willingness to develop are also important.

You will study a Level 3 BTEC in Sports Coaching and Development. The full qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and can be worth up to 168 UCAS points.
Yes. You will have opportunities to work towards FA-accredited coaching qualifications alongside your BTEC, giving you recognised badges as well as academic learning.
Yes. The programme is fully funded for eligible school leavers aged 16–19, allowing you to study, train and gain coaching experience without paying standard college course fees.
The Level 3 programme is completed over two academic years. During that time, you will develop your football knowledge, coaching ability, confidence and practical experience.
Your studies can cover sports coaching principles, player development, fitness and conditioning, performance analysis, sports psychology, leadership, communication and careers in the sports industry.

Students can complete up to 15 hours of placement experience each week. The amount and type of placement available may depend on your timetable, progress and local opportunities.
Placement opportunities can include football clubs, schools, community programmes, holiday camps and other sports organisations.
You could help plan and deliver sessions, organise equipment, support matchdays, observe experienced coaches and provide feedback to players. As your confidence develops, you may receive greater responsibility.
Yes. SGA tutors and coaches will support your development with guidance on session planning, communication, organisation, professional behaviour and building your coaching CV.

Possible paths include grassroots, community or academy coaching, football development, school sport, performance analysis, strength and conditioning, talent identification and sports programme coordination. Some roles require further qualifications.
Yes. The Level 3 BTEC can be worth up to 168 UCAS points and may support progression to degrees in sports coaching, football coaching, sports science, performance analysis or physical education. University requirements vary.
Yes. Your qualification, coaching badges and placement experience can support applications for football and sports apprenticeships or entry-level industry roles.
Tutors and coaches help you explore careers, prepare applications, develop your CV and identify the qualifications required for your chosen pathway. You will also build a football network through placements and the wider SGA community.
